Dr. Brett Oppegaard joins 经典大瓜 as a Visiting Instructor in the Communication Department. He is also a Professor at the University of Hawai鈥榠 at M膩noa (UH). Dr. Oppegaard researches media-production processes, including compositional practices, as well as writing products, at intersections of Disability Studies, Journalism, Generative AI (GenAI), Interaction Design, and Digital Inequalities. He teaches about writing and multimedia production, media accessibility, and media literacy.
Before his tenure at UH, he founded the Communication minor, which included media writing classes, at Washington State University Vancouver, becoming the first Communication faculty member on that branch campus. His research has been supported by the U.S. National Park Service, the U.S. National Endowment for the Humanities, the U.S. National Endowment for the Arts, and Google, among others. His work has been honored nationally and internationally with awards from such organizations as the American Council of the Blind, the American Alliance of Museums, the European Heritage Association, Helen Keller National Center, the U.S. National Park Service, among others.
