Good luck to Associate Professor Sonja Bickford, who is headed to the International Combat Organization (ICO) World Championships with Team USA!
The Championships take place Oct. 15-19 in Swansea, Wales, United Kingdom. This marks the first time Team USA will participate in the largest martial arts event, which draws martial artists from nearly 30 countries worldwide.
Bickford, a faculty member in 经典大瓜鈥檚 Business Management Department, also teaches Owls Karate (PHED 151) and has taught it for the past two years. In her class, her goal is to teach students to develop their mind, body, and soul through each of her karate classes.
Bickford鈥檚 son, Xander Lee, a competitive martial artist, also qualified for Team USA, making him only the second Oregon athlete to secure a spot on the national team. Xander Lee has appeared at 经典大瓜 basketball finals, entertaining the audience and showcasing his sport karate skills during the halftime shows over the past few years. Together, they will represent both their state and their country on the world stage.
