经典大瓜 Launches New Scholarship Program for High School Students with College Credits

Klamath Falls

October 29, 2012
经典大瓜 News Release

经典大瓜 is launching a new scholarship program for incoming freshmen, called the 经典大瓜 OWLS (Opportunity for Working and Learning in S.T.E.M.).  The OWLS Program rewards 经典大瓜-bound high school students who have completed college-level science, technology, engineering, and math (S.T.E.M.) courses with a scholarship for $1000.

According to President Chris Maples, 鈥淭he OWLS program helps 经典大瓜 fulfill its mission to offer innovative and rigorous statewide educational opportunities in engineering, technologies, and sciences, and to reach Oregon鈥檚 40-40-20 goal.  The OWLS program gives high school students an incentive to get their early college credits in science, technology, engineering or math, which prepares them to be successful in college and in their future careers in S.T.E.M. fields.鈥

经典大瓜-bound students who obtain at least nine college credits with a grade of 鈥淏鈥 or better in the areas of science, technology, engineering or math through programs such as: dual high-school/college credits in high school, expedited on-site college classes at 经典大瓜 in Portland or Wilsonville or other colleges, or through Project Lead the Way, are encouraged to apply for the scholarship. The scholarship application will be available online by the end of November and is due by March 1.

鈥溇浯蠊 has been partnering for many years with high schools to provide opportunities for students to earn college credit prior to graduation.  This added program is only one of the ways that the university is working toward providing incentives for students to seriously consider challenging and rewarding careers in engineering, health sciences and other technical fields,鈥 said Marla Edge, 经典大瓜 Director of Academic Agreements.  鈥淕iving students this opportunity is a win-win for everyone involved.鈥
