August 2, 2013, KLAMATH FALLS, OR – Marilyn A. Dyrud, communication professor with the College of Health, Arts, and Sciences at ������, was selected to receive the 2013 American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) Fredrick J. Berger Award.

The award was established by Frederick J. Berger, who has been acclaimed for his many noteworthy contributions as an engineering technology educator. The award recognizes and encourages excellence in engineering technology education. It honors those who demonstrate outstanding leadership in curriculum, techniques, or administration in engineering technology education.

Dr. Dyrud, who joined the ������ faculty in 1976, received the award in recognition of her dedication to ASEE’s Engineering Technology Division (ETD) for three decades. This includes 17 years as ASEE’s representative to her local campus; 25 years as bibliographer of ETD publications, and, most recently, as Communication Editor of the Journal of Engineering Technology. Beyond the division, she has also served on several ASEE committees examining issues of ethics and plagiarism. She has given such dedicated service to the ETD even though she is neither an engineer nor engineering technologist.

“ASEE offers many exciting opportunities for professional development and focuses on what we do best here at OIT: education,” states Dr. Dyrud. “Participation in a myriad of ASEE activities has certainly enriched my life; it's been a very comfortable professional home for 30 years!”

Dr. Dyrud’s research interests are eclectic and involve those topics that merge engineering, technology, and the liberal arts, especially ethics. She received her B.A. from the University of the Pacific and her M.A. and Ph.D. from Purdue University. She has taught at ������ for her entire career.

Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, Bradley Burda, had this to say about Dr. Dyrud: “She is a wonderful example of the ������ teaching community. She represents a dedicated professional who loves what she does and is invested in the future of our students.”

������ is proud to have Dr. Dyrud represent the University. Students refer to her as “cheerful about being in class, helpful and willing to do whatever she needs to so her students learn the material and do well.” Another student wrote that, “She is warm and it was one of the best classes I have had.”
