Chair of the 经典大瓜 Board of Trustees, Dr. Lisa Graham, said, 鈥淭he Board is very excited about Dr. Naganathan leading 经典大瓜 to its next level of innovation and service to students. He understands well all sides of the polytechnic mission and approach to education and preparation for an in-demand career. Dr. Naganathan has helped universities excel in some of the strategic opportunities we are beginning to engage in, like industry partnerships, additional market-driven degree offerings, diversifying our revenues and fundraising, and always seeking affordability and excellence for students. He has ignited institutions and programs throughout his career, and shown leadership in action with high returns. Naganathan is expected to begin his tenure as president of 经典大瓜 in the spring of 2017. He will lead a polytechnic university that has seen record enrollment and degrees in recent years, reaching 5,232 students at all of its campuses and sites in fall 2016, and consistently ranking high in graduates鈥 return on investment. With three campuses 鈥 Klamath Falls, Wilsonville and Online 鈥 and other delivery sites, 经典大瓜 is growing its footprint in Oregon with degrees not offered elsewhere in the state and often the region, that are meeting industry demand in engineering, technology, healthcare and other applied fields.
Dr. Naganathan said, 鈥淚鈥檓 excited about joining 经典大瓜 and extend my thanks to the Board, Search Committee, faculty, staff and students for your trust and warm welcome. 经典大瓜 has so many unique and high value assets and opportunities at this point in its history. Engaging with everyone to take the university to its next level of excellence is a venture I can鈥檛 wait to begin. My wife Kasturi and I look forward to being part of the Klamath Falls community on and off campus and look forward to our move to Oregon.鈥
Dr. Naganathan has 22 years of academic leadership experience and currently serves as the Dean of Engineering at The University of Toledo (UT), a role he has had since 2003. Dr. Naganathan also served as Interim President of UT from 2014-15 as well as the chief administrator of its academic medical center (UTMC), which includes a hospital. Other positions which Naganathan has held at UT include Interim Dean of Engineering (2000-2003); Professor and Founding Chair of Mechanical, Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering (1995-2000); Interim Chair of Mechanical Engineering (1994-1995); and Assistant/Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering (1986-1994).
Prior to joining UT, between 1978 and 1986, Dr. Naganathan worked at the Dana Corporation; was a Teaching Assistant at both Oklahoma State University and Clarkson University; and worked as a Product Development Engineer at Ashok Leyland Motors, Madras, India.
Dr. Naganathan received his Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University; his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Clarkson University; and his B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, University of Madras, India.
Trustee Graham added, 鈥淚 want to thank members of the Search Committee for all of their hard work and dedication since May to this very expedited process. They reached this successful outcome under the leadership of Search Chair and Trustee Kelley Minty Morris, and Committee members Allison Brosterhous, Jeremy Brown, John Davis, Tom Insko, Kristen Marsters, Laura McKinney, SophiaLyn Nathenson, Celia N煤帽ez, Ralph Santiago, Paul Stewart, Wangping Sun, David Thaemert, Dee Thompson, Bob Wynne, and Ruth Young. There isn鈥檛 a more important or visible role at a university than the president, and the Committee took that responsibility very seriously, and achieved a wonderful outcome.鈥
